MIRC customers have included Neptune Sciences, Inc., National Ice Center, Marine Advanced Technology Education Center, ADC Telecommunications, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Knowledge Connections, Marine Corps Systems Command, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, Ultra-Electronics, Prologic Inc., BAE Systems, and SAIC.

MIRC scientists and engineers are listed on the GSA Schedule.

The Bay Bus Partnership Project (B2P2), a nonprofit corporation, was founded during 1999 as MIRC's outward focus. More than 200 students have participated in service learning adventures within Maryland's Chesapeake Bay watershed. Completion of meaningful service learning experiences is a requirement for Maryland high school diploma.

In 2003, MIRC expanded its capabilities to provide oceanographic field work with the acquisition of Mariner I, a work boat capable of offshore day operations up to 40 miles from the coast.

Opened a field office with the University of New Orleans at the Stennis Space Center, MS in 2010

MIRC supported NRL remote sensing campaigns in Australia during 2009, in the Mariana Islands during 2010, and on the Potomac River in 2011.
